EU and Egypt Strengthen Cooperation

The European Union (EU) adopted a multiannual framework defining the priorities for the financial and technical cooperation with Egypt from this year until 2020, with a focus on youth and women.

Following the assumption of partnership priorities with Egypt in July this year, the EU took on the Single Support Framework (SSF) setting priorities and financial allocation in key strategic areas of bilateral cooperation with the country.

Johannes Hahn, commissioner, policy and enlargement negotiations, European Neighbourhood, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the EU SSF with the Egyptian authorities. Hahn also signed two financial agreements supporting the sectors of health, environment and transport as well as a EUR60 million (USD69.4 million) programme to support Egypt in addressing migration challenges.
